Some key milestones on Oosterweel right bank

The Oosterweel infrastructure works in Antwerp, Belgium, are progressing on both banks of the river Schelde, with significant milestones reached in recent weeks. Let’s take a closer look at the progress made by the TM ROCO team, including DEME, on the right bank.

🚧 At the Canal Tunnels, the project has entered its next phase with the installation of 4.7 km of diaphragm walls. These walls will create a dry construction pit for tunnel construction. Concrete works have also recently begun, marking another important step forward.

🚧 Meanwhile, at the Merksem viaduct, TM ROCO is making great progress on the Bypass, a temporary motorway designed to keep traffic flowing while the existing viaduct is demolished. The direction towards the Netherlands is set to be operational by the end of this year. Additionally, a section of the Groot Schijn river was rerouted to make room for the Bypass.

🚧 Another key milestone was the installation of the impressive arch bridge. Measuring 150 metres long, 25 metres wide, and 23 metres high, and weighing approximately 2,800 tonnes, the bridge was moved into its final position.
