What we do

Challenge

DEME was contracted to transport and install 97 monopiles and transition pieces, and carry out the scour protection for Ørsted’s Gode Wind 1 & 2 offshore wind farms, which comprised 42 and 55 foundations respectively. The foundations consisted of a monopile (MP) and transition piece (TP) and included a grouted connection.

The Gode Wind 1 & 2 projects are located in the Exclusive Economic Zone in the German sector of the North Sea and represent a capacity of nearly 600 MW.

Solution

We loaded the foundations at the fabrication yards in Rostock (monopiles) and Aalborg (transition pieces) and they were transported by our ‘NB barges’ and these were then used to feed DEME’s heavy lift, DP2 jack-up vessel ‘Innovation’ with foundations in the port of Eemshaven. We performed the offshore installation under the strictest BSH requirements, with a high focus on noise mitigation measures.

As well as the main scope, we were responsible for additional secondary works such as the removal of levelling bolts, the connection of earthing cables by divers, the out-survey of the scour protection, and removal of grout hoses by deploying an ROV. We also carried out the scour protection installation.
