Supply of 2.5 million m³ of sand to prepare Imeretinskaya Lowland for the construction of the Sochi Olympic City for the Winter Olympic Games of 2014. The project included shore pumping through floating and land lines.

Solution
DEME sourced the sand by using our trailing suction hopper dredgers. During the dredging activities, we took great care to ensure that the sand was of good quality. After dredging, we had to transport the sand by sea.
In Sochi we had to pump the sand hydraulically to shore via a floating and land line into a reclamation area. The land line had to be constructed close to a residential area and had to cross several roads.
After each discharge of the hopper dredger, we dewatered the reclamation area by using a diesel pump. All the water had to flow directly back to the sea on the same land and floating line to avoid the seawater having any impact on the local environment.
